The Devil Inside Me

Dylan: Mom, can you please check the windows?

Mom: Why don't you check yourself?

Dylan: I can't, I'm reading a comic right now.....

Mom: You are 17 and you still reading those books? I don't care, just do it yourself (shouted).

Dylan: Ahh.....Why me always?......(in a low voice).

Dylan walked down the stairs to close the window.

Dylan: MOMMMM...........Why did you lie? ...it's already closed.

Mom: I didn't close the windows.

Dylan: Then who locked it? Even dad is not here.

Mom: Whatever, leave it.

Dylan: Leave it? you should have told me the truth.

Mom: Shut up..! (mom shouted) I told you I didn't.

Dylan: Nah, I hate it here.

Mom: What did you say?

Dylan: Nothinggggg............

Dylan went back to his room and mom headed towards the kitchen. It's almost 7 pm. The rain was pouring heavily outside. Both of them were waiting for Dylan's dad to return home. After finishing the comic, Dylan went outside his room and rushed to the kitchen.

Dylan: Mom, I'm hungry...,

Mom: Wait for your dad, we can have it together.

Dylan: I can't, I'm starving.....Mom.......give me something.

Mom: You have to wait...

Dylan: Why....?

Mom: It's your father's birthday. We already discussed today's dinner.

Dylan: Oh. Is it today? I forgot.

Dylan was going back to his room. On his way, he heard some weird sound from the storeroom near the stairs.

Dylan: Mom, what's that sound in the storeroom?

Mom: What? I don't know. It could be a rat or something. I saw one in the kitchen today.

Dylan: But it doesn't sound like that...it's weirder.

Mom: Go back to your room and wait for your dad. He will be home soon.

Dylan: Hmm.

Mom: Don't enter the storeroom without my permission, okay?

Dylan: why?

Mom: Just do what I'm saying. no more questions.

Dylan: Okayyy.............

After returning to his room he grabbed his comic book and started reading it again from the beginning. He was really hungry and the weird sound from the storeroom is still inside his mind. He threw away his book and decided to check the storeroom. He silently walked down and headed to the storeroom without making any noise. The storeroom was filled with old furniture and some old broken things which were left behind by the previous tenants. It was darker and the sound was no longer audible.

"Where did it go?" Dylan murmured.

After looking everywhere, he found a red envelope. He opened the envelope and there was only one sentence written on it.

"YOUR MOM WILL DIE TONIGHT"

After reading it, he lost his mind. He was confused and at the same time afraid. He suddenly rushed to the kitchen with the envelope in his hand.

Dylan : (breathing heavily) Mom, what's this thing?

Mom: What? (confused)

Dylan: This envelope. who wrote this?

Mom: Where did you find it?

Dylan: Inside the storeroom.

Mom: What? I told you to leave that place alone.

Dylan: But I was curious. Look at this, read this sentence.

Mom: There is nothing written on it.

Dylan: Mom, I'm serious.

Mom: I said it's blank.

Dylan: It isn't.

Mom: Then tell me what's written on it?

Dylan: It's uhh...It says you are......

Mom: Are you playing right now?

Dylan: I'm not, please just believe me.

Mom: Enough. Get back to your room now.

Dylan returned to his room mindful of confusion. He checked the envelope again and again expecting it to be blank like his mom said. After an hour, his dad arrived. His mom called him to join the dinner. But he resisted because he was out of his mind thinking about the message in the envelope.

After some time he heard his mom screaming. He got tensed and ran towards the kitchen. His mom was lying on the floor covered with blood. His dad was there holding a knife with his mom's blood all over his face and knife. Dylan's heart started to beat out of control. His dad's face was entirely different. He had a smile on his face while watching his wife struggling to live. After confirming her dead he headed towards Dylan pointing his knife towards him. Dylan tried to run away from the house but the front door was already locked. He was totally trapped. His dad walked towards him with a psychotic laugh. Dylan shouted heavily asking for help. But none heard him and his voice was unreachable to the world outside.

With a massive sound from above, a mysterious man broke into the house from the window upstairs. His face was covered with a black mask and was six feet tall. He took his revolver from his pouch and shot Dylan's dad continuously until he collapsed onto the ground. After killing his dad, he looked at Dylan and said "NOW IT'S YOUR TURN".

Dylan was extremely shocked and half-dead seeing all these traumas. He said to himself that it's his end.

The mysterious man pointed his gun towards him and pulled the trigger. Dylan took a deep breath. Suddenly, the envelope which was in his pocket started to glow intensively. He has no idea what's going on. He took the envelope outside and opened it.

"SAY YES AND LET ME IN"

He had no other options. Dylan decided to say yes.

He said "YESS" loudly.

The mysterious man fired his gun.

At the same time, the lights went down and darkness started to spread everywhere.

Few more gunshots were heard...
